Ten Years on . . .
The Bailey Sisters are going to record another album, but this time it will be performed LIVE on Saturday 7th September 2019 in the fabulously interesting church on top of West Wycombe Hill, St Lawrence's.
Roll back the clock 10 years to 11th December 2009, and we were at the church of Saint Michael and All Angels in Cornholme doing exactly the same thing . . . only back then we we hadn't been going for very long and it was all a bit terrifying!
I was looking at the songs which made it onto "Four Seasons in Song" and whilst we don't sing some of them any more, there are several which feature regularly in our current set, such as Oak and Ash and Thorn and Follow the Heron Home (Karine Polwart). Some have made it onto studio albums - Ah Robin, Mill Girl's Lullaby, Navigator. Then of course Personent Hodie, and Poor Little Jesus made it onto our last album "Down in Yon Forest", which was launched at the Bridgewater Hall in December 2017.
We decided that it was time to record live again, this time up the road from where Aly lives in High Wycombe. We will sing a mixture of old and new, and feature some self-penned songs from both Karen and Aly, alongside an experimental arrangement of Green Grow the Laurels which took form originally in Karen's kitchen! We should definitely include Oak and Ash and Thorn again, and hope that you will all join in with the chorus . . .
The Bailey Sisters are constantly evolving and the journey that brought us to this point has certainly been eventful over the years. We hope to see as many of you as possible on 7th September to help us celebrate. There will be wine and cake too of course!
